Dan Payne and Kristen Sernoski Gallery
September 2008 Dan Payne and Alex Zahara and fans raised $8639 for Kristen Sernoski at a charity auction at DAGA (Dan and Alex Gathering and Auction), held in connection with Gatecon 2008 in Vancouver.
This is the message Dan sent to the news crews:
Hello,
My name is Dan Payne. Recently my aunt and cousin brought a moving story to my attention regarding a young girl named Kristen Sernoski. She is a friend and class mate to my cousin Samantha in Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island.
Kristen has recently recovered from an invasive brain surgery which involved the removal of a large tumor on her pituitary gland. The surgery meant the removal of her pituitary gland and stalk. The tumor already severely restricted her growth and growth hormone production and she now has no means of producing any naturally. She is now required to take hormone injections for the next 4-8 years.
Even with coverage, her family must now absorb upwards of $100,000 over that time frame. She is barely 4 feet tall and her 10 year old brother towers over her even though she is 5 years older than him.
I really wanted to help. I am a Vancouver actor and have been a part of the Stargate franchise over the course of my career. I was scheduled to attend a convention here in Vancouver recently and had the idea to do a charity auction to raise funds for Kristen. I auctioned every bit of Stargate memoribilia I owned and more and then reached out to friends and fellow actors to help and put on a show and auction with friend and fellow actor Alex Zahara.
I hoped for some success knowing that the Stargate convention goers are very generous, but the response was staggering and we managed to raise $8631.39! I bring this to your attention because I would love to raise awareness for Kristen and her plight as much as possible to help her reach the desired goal and relieve the family.
